| Located in St. Augustine Antigua, the restored
historic district of the nation's oldest city, St. Francis Inn is rich in Old
World charm and modern comforts. Founded in 1565 by Pedro Menendez and a band of colonists and soldiers, the bay front city of St. Augustine strongly reflects its Spanish heritage in beautiful architecture amid subtropical splendor. The St. Francis Inn was built as a private home for a Spanish soldier garrisoned at the Fort in St. Augustine in 1791. Known as the Garcia-Dummett house, it began operating as an Inn shortly after the turn of the century. It is a Spanish colonial structure with a private courtyard, balconies furnished with ample rocking chairs and the modern amenity of a swimming pool. The building is made of coquina, a local building material made of compressed seashells. One of the more interesting aspects of the inn is its physical shape. Because it was built on two intersecting streets which were not perpendicular, the inn itself is a trapezoidal building. Interestingly, there are no square or rectangular rooms; all of the rooms, stairways and halls are built on a angle. |

The qualities that make the St. Francis special include the large selection of accommodations, ranging from single rooms to two and three room suites to an entire cottage. The warmth and peacefulness of the inn itself, the location of the inn in proximity to other areas in the town and the quality of the guests it draws are all strong assets to the St. Francis. Its architectural charm and modern day amenities also contribute to its overall appeal and special comfort. |
Complimentary breakfast includes hot entrees, homemade pastries and breads, granola, oatmeal, fresh fruit and beverages. You may enjoy your breakfast in the Inn's dining room, your room, on a balcony, or in the courtyard. Complimentary coffee and iced tea are served all day.
